Ontem vi um dos melhores filme que já vi. “A Vida dos Outros”, no original “Das Leben der Anderen”. É filme candidato a Óscar, e uma experiência fantástica. Aconselho vivamente.

Na edição de hoje, com uma designer equipamentos, que adora Lisboa, às tantas diz isto (e como eu a compreendo):

Há alguma cidade que trocasses por Lisboa?
Bom, de vez em quando, tenho inveja ao pensar na Holanda e particularmente em Amesterdão (onde eu já estive e gostei muito). Acho que têm um maior respeito pela natureza, um maior respeito uns pelos outros. E às vezes tenho um bocadinho inveja daquela calma, que toda a gente pode ir de directa para o trabalho, que é uma qualidade de vida assim, grande(...)

The diference between the results in 1998 and 2007. It means, perhaps, that mentalities are changing in Portugal, and the Catholic church is loosing their influence.

Hoje dia de referendo, a Europa olha para nós com expectactiva:

Trente-trois ans après la fin de la dictature, le Portugal va-t-il rester avec Malte, la Pologne et l'Irlande l'un des quatre pays d'Europe où l'avortement est quasi impossible ? Près de 8,4 millions d'électeurs sont appelés ce dimanche à répondre à la question suivante : «Etes-vous pour la dépénalisation de l'interruption volontaire de grossesse, si elle est réalisée à la demande de la femme, dans les dix premières semaines de grossesse, dans un établissement de santé légalement autorisé ?». En 1998, lors d'un référendum similaire, le pays s'était dérobé face à ce choix de société : seulement un Portugais sur trois s'était déplacé, et le non l'avait emporté de justesse (50,07 %).

El elevado número de indecisos ante el referéndum sobre el aborto que se celebra hoy en Portugal va a sentenciar el futuro de la nueva ley. Tras once días de campaña, ahora tienen la palabra los 8,4 millones de portugueses con derecho a voto en la segunda consulta pública que se celebra en la historia de este país sobre la despenalización de la interrupción del embarazo en las primeras diez semanas de gestación: hasta ahora, un delito penado con cárcel si se práctica sin los requisitos legales.

Portugezen naar stembus voor abortusreferendum

LISSABON - Ruim acht miljoen Portugezen mogen zich zondag in een referendum uitspreken voor of tegen abortus. Veel mensen in het katholieke Zuid-Europese land lijken echter niet warm te lopen voor de volksraadpleging.

Om het resultaat rechtsgeldig te laten zijn moet meer dan helft van het electoraat opkomen. Het gaat er volgens peilingen om spannen of dat quorum gehaald wordt of niet. Een ruime meerderheid van de Portugese bevolking is voor het opheffen van het verbod op de vroegtijdige beëindiging van zwangerschappen.

In 1998 hield Lissabon ook al een referendum over het onderwerp. Toen nam nog niet de helft van de kiesgerechtigden de moeite te stemmen en bleef het verbod overeind. Kiezers kunnen zondag tussen acht uur ‘s ochtends en zeven uur ‘s avonds (lokale tijd) hun voorkeur kenbaar maken.

Jorge Sampaio, ex-Presidente da República, e quanto a mim o melhor desde a implantação da república, é um cidadão exemplar. O agora cidadão Sampaio está hoje numa mesa de voto a ajudar no escrutínio do aborto. Pena existirem ainda poucos exemplos assim em Portugal, devia ser algo mais recorrente.

Começo desde já por dizer que um dia perfeito para mim é em Amesterdam. Mas como não vivo lá, e vivo noutra cidade fantástica, Lisboa, aqui vai:

O meu dia preferido em Lisboa é o sábado. Depois de me deitar tarde na sexta, o que acontece quase sempre, gosto de me levantar por volta das 11h e ir correr, um jogging que dura cerca 30 a 40 minutos de preferência a começar no Estádio Universitário e a terminar a correr em direcção a casa.
Depois de um bom banho gosto de ir até ao Chiado/Bairro Alto comer uma sopa orgânica no Royale. Acabado o repasto compro os jornais e, se o tempo estiver bom vou até ao Noobai ler e olhar para o Tejo, senão meto-me na Fnac para ver as últimas novidades de cd e livros. A seguir passo pelas ruas do Bairro - que são maravilhosas durante o final de tarde. Vou quase sempre à Carhartt e dou uma vista de olhos na Station, loja de roupa urbana onde tenho sempre a curiosidade de ver se algum modelo novo de ténis chegou (sempre em busca dos Nike Dunk perfeitos). Subo a Sétima Colina em direcção a casa e depois de uma rápida mudança de roupa e um jantar rápido, volto para o Bairro onde vou, juntamente, com um amigo, pôr música no bar Politika até perto das 3h. A seguir, rumo, quase sempre, ao Lux.

Adoro esta rotina em Lisboa.

These are (in red) the countries in Europe where abortus is still a crime: Poland, Lietchenstein, Rep. of Ireland, Cyprus, Malta and Portugal.

For me, and i hope most of portuguese people this is something to be ashame of. Next sunday, 11th february, portuguese citizens will have the opportunity to make their country more free, modern, and less hypocrisy in the portuguese society. There is going to happen a referedum.

I truly hope that, now, things will change, and abortus will not be forbiden anymore.

Confesso, comprei um livro fútil. Fui à Fnac e depois de procurar três cd's que estavam esgotados e um aparelho wireless que só existe na Fnac do Algarve, trouxe para casa o Piet Hein Bakker, salvo seja. Comprei o livro "Ladrão de Bicicletas" sobre a vida deste holandês de Haia em Lisboa (desde 1994)que opina sobre a nossa sociedade. E tem grandes verdades.

Curiosamente, fez-me ter ainda mais saudades da sociedade, costumes e hábitos holandeses de que eu tanto gosto...

Há pouco um amigo saíu aqui de casa e viu, no Largo do Rato, um grupo de jovens "betinhos" a pintarem uns graffittis no chão, junto às passadeiras a dizer: "Por favor não me pises, tenho 10 semanas", com um boneco de um feto.

Incrível. Começo a temer que o não irá ganhar vantagem nesta semana!!!

A uma semana das eleições, estes são os resultados actuais!!
Caros, não vão votar não...fiquem em casa como há oito anos, depois queixem-se de que temos um país atrasado:

A apenas uma semana do referendo sobre a despenalização do aborto, o «sim» continua à frente, mas a perder terreno para o «não», que já recolhe 43,7% das intenções de voto.

O «não» encontra-se a 7,6 pontos percentuais do «sim», com 51,3%, revela uma sondagem hoje divulgada pelo Correio da Manhã.

De acordo com a sondagem CM/Aximage, realizada entre 31 de Janeiro e 2 de Fevereiro, a campanha dos defensores do «não» tem sido a mais eficaz, já que no espaço de duas semanas as intenções de voto no «não» subiram 13,9 pontos percentuais, ao passar de 29,8% para 43,7%.

O «sim», por outro lado, desce pela quarta vez consecutiva. Enquanto em Dezembro não deixava margem para dúvidas, ao conquistar 64,1% das intenções de voto, dois meses depois, o «sim» caiu para os 51,3%.

Além de perder adeptos para o «não» e para a abstenção, o «sim» parece não estar a convencer os indecisos. Isto porque mesmo com uma redução de 9,6 pontos percentuais no número de indecisos (cinco%), o «sim» não parou de cair nas intenções de voto.

Aliás, 47,6% dos indecisos revelou que está com tendência para votar mais no «não», contra 26,8% que diz estar mais voltado para o «sim». Mesmo assim, com a distribuição de indecisos, o «sim» manter-se-ia de qualquer forma na liderança dos resultados com 53,3%, enquanto o «não» atingiria os 46,7%.

Eu mudava!!!

Não me identifico com ela, acho-a não muito bonita, e tem a ver com um período de tempo em que nada orgulha os portugueses. Gostava que existisse uma proposta para ser posta em prática a partir do centenário da República. Já tinha um pensamento sobre isso, mas fiquei ainda mais convencido depois de ler um artigo do designer Ricardo Mealha (www.rmac.pt) no jornal Meios e Publicidade (www.meiosepublicidade.pt)

Por mim, a bandeira ficava toda verde e apenas com o brasão nacional. Simbolizava esperança no futuro e a ecologia. Poderia ser azul, mas esta iria remeter para a monarquia, se fosse toda vermelha, seria comunista, ou do Benfica (o que nem é assim tão mau). Assim, penso que o verde tenderia a dar uma imagem moderna do novo Portugal, sem, no entanto, quebrar muitas barreiras com o passado.

Todo o mundo falaria em nós, e teríamos uma nova imagem pelo globo. E bem que precisamos!!!!

WINDOWS VISTA: WHY NOBODY CARES

Back in the day, your operating system was a big deal. It was who you were. Mac vs. Windows was like Catholic vs. Protestant, or Republican vs. Democrat, and about as rational. Now it's somewhere down around Coke vs. Pepsi. Microsoft is still winning the battles — the iPod "halo effect" notwithstanding, Apple is hovering at about a 5% market share — but no one's getting worked up about the war. So many of the file-compatibility issues have been solved, and so much computing goes on in the browser anyway. So who cares?

That's one reason for the near-total non-excitement surrounding the launch of Windows Vista, the first new version in five years of the software that runs hundreds of millions of PCs. The other reason is that Vista is ... pretty good. It's not a disgrace, and it's not a masterpiece. It's not worth buying a new machine for Vista, and there's no reason to switch to it if you use a Mac, but it gets the job done. Not the stuff of which great headlines are made.

And now that I've drained all the interest out of this review, let's go to the features:

1. Vista looks pretty. The edges of the windows are now transparent, like little glass microscope slides. Vista — blatantly following the trend set by Apple — represents data as translucent and jewel-like and faintly glowing. Subtle shadows, gleams and animations enhance the illusion. It's just cosmetic stuff, but given how much time one spends there, it's nice when one's desktop doesn't feel like a soul-leaching cubicle. (To assuage the Mac faithful: yes, many of Vista's features are pilfered directly from Mac OS X, and in general Apple has shown itself to be far more efficient and innovative in the operating systems market. Done.)

2. Vista makes sense, more or less. Much of the challenge of creating a good operating system is design, not technology. Which means figuring out a visually logical way for users to get at all their information easily. Vista is creeping in that direction, with improved search functions and nicely built-in music and photo organizers — you can actually "tag" photos with keywords, which is very handy. Useful widgets like clocks and photo albums cluster happily at the edge of the screen like attentive waiters, happy to serve you.

What truly makes a great user interface is an ineffable internal logic, a set of consistent internal rules that one absorbs without their having to be stated (like in a manual, for example), and I don't see that quite yet in Vista. You don't always instinctively know where the back button will be, or the "close this window" button. If your desktop is overcrowded with windows, you can hit an icon that will line them all up for you, tilted at an angle, so you can pluck out the one that you need. Nice — but at the same time, it breaks with the visual metaphor of a flat desktop.

3. Vista is secure, or at least it's securer. If that's a word. Being a near-monopoly makes Windows a magnet for phishers, viruses, adware and other malware writers. So Microsoft has worked on that, mostly under the hood. I think what most impressed me were the built-in parental controls: you can decide when your kids will use Vista, what websites they can go to, what applications they can run, whom they can IM with, and so on. And if they try to break the controls, Vista will rat them out.

4. Vista is expensive and a bit of a resource-hog. There are two versions targeted at home users : Basic ($199, which is about what OS X costs) and Premium ($239). (Note that Basic doesn't give you that nice pretty translucent look, which is Vista's most immediately appealing feature.) Most people won't buy Vista at retail, but you'll feel the burn somewhere in there whenever you buy your next computer. For the Premium edition Microsoft recommends a 1Ghz processor and 1GB of RAM, as well as a respectable graphics setup, but I think you'll need quite a bit more power to get the full, smooth experience. The laptop Microsoft loaned me to test Vista had 2Ghz and 2GB, so be careful not to buy more Windows than you can run.

To sum up: Vista is a perfectly respectable new iteration of Windows. They've even, finally, come up with a decent way to make laptops sleep and wake up again, which XP was never very good at. The fact that it took Microsoft over five years and $6 billion dollars to create Vista is — and I mean this quite seriously — an embarrassment to the good name of American innovation, but it's perfectly fine.

Two closing thoughts. One, there's a lot of functionality built into Vista — look at the photo editor, which is integrated with the operating system and which works like a stripped-down version of the already-stripped-down Photoshop Elements. Isn't that the kind of anti-competitive integration that got Microsoft into anti-trust court last time around? (Not that they ever left: they're facing hundred-million Euro fines in Europe as we speak.)

And two, Vista's real test won't be some reviewer checking off features in his lonely office. It will come when millions of Vista users make their way out into the deep waters of the greater Internet ecology, where legions of Internet-based criminals will start banging away on its security features, looking for a way to fool it, break it or hijack it. Translucent borders are all well and good, but out there in the jungle, no one cares how pretty you are.

Certo que ainda não chegou à Europa, mas o Zune não está propriamente a ser um grande sucesso nos Estados Unidos. Diria mesmo que está prestes a revelar-se um flop. Alguém tem dúvidas que as diferentes filosofias entre a cinzenta Microsoft e a fantástica Apple????
